Biography

Hannes Raue is working from 2004 as head of product-management and technical services at the Knopp GmbH in Dettelbach (Germany) which is part of the international Ardex Group since 2017. This global acting company produces and sells concrete and screed admixtures as well as anhydrite binders. His department acts as an interface between development and technical marketing of products in practice. This means that there is a complex field of activity including market observation, application technology aspects, carrying out theoretical and practical product training and participation in international conferences. Furthermore, customer acquisition and customer support, both for end customers and all international sales partners, is part of his responsibility. Hannes Raue has achieved his PhD in geoscience from 2000 – 2004 and was working in the meantime as a scientific associate at Institute of Geology at the Universität Würzburg (Germany). He has done his academic study in geology from 1994 – 2000 also at the Universität Würzburg. Before that time Hannes Raue got his education as a construction material lab-technician for concrete, asphalt, and soil from 1991 – 1994.

Abstract

Floor screed is widely recognized as one of the most underrated construction members in the building process. Not concrete walls or ceilings but floor screeds are treated in the long life of a building every day by people, vehicles, or machines. Thus, floor screeds need to be rigid, uniform and even. They must provide proper bond strength and low residual humidity for a quick and save anchoring of any type of final floor finish. Furthermore, modern floor screed should be applied floating to enable the installation of sound and thermal insulation underneath. Thus, floor screeds need to fulfill also static load requirements. Especially in the field of prefabrication floor screeds require low specific density performance concomitant with sufficient load capacity. Finally, the application of flowing screed rather than semi-dry screed contributes to a fast and health-friendly building process.

We are highlighting here innovative materials and application processes to enable a labour saving, environmentally friendly and fast-track construction progress of floor screeds.
