Biography
Prof. Huang Zhaolong holds a PhD in Engineering and is an associate professor at Hubei University. His research focuses on high-performance pavement materials and high-strength, high-toughness cement-based materials. He has been granted more than 20 patents as first inventor and has received two Second Prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, together with several provincial and ministerial awards. He has led projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and major provincial programs. His recent research has been applied in UHPC projects, including bridge deck pavement, lightweight I-beams, prefabricated bridge decks, massive UHPC structures, and offshore wind power components.
Abstract
Lightweight ultra-high-performance concrete is made by completely replacing natural sand and gravel with lightweight aggregates. It’s light (≤2100kg/m3), low shrinkage, and highly durable. It’s used in structural projects to reduce section sizes, cut down the weight, make building and curing easier, and save on costs. In this study, high-strength lightweight aggregates were made using industrial waste like coal gangue and phosphogypsum. By adjusting the cement materials and optimising the type and amount of fibres, and comparing different lightweight aggregates, we produced LUHPC with a compressive strength over 120MPa, no shrinkage at 180 days, and a creep coefficient ≤ 0.8. It’s been successfully used in bridge projects like prefabricated beams, prefabricated bridge decks, and paving composite of steel box girder bridges.
